I miss you – a reminder that you love someone

i miss you

“I miss you. Not in some cheesy “Let’s hold hands and be together forever kind of way”. I just miss you, plain and simple. I miss your presence in my life. I miss you always being there for me. I miss you best friend.” – Anonymous

My current job requires me to travel throughout the country about 15% of the time. While the experience has certainly made me a savvy traveler, it’s been an adjustment leaving my home for any length of time. More importantly my wife, whose smile, embrace and laughter continues to warm my heart and soul.

We’ve been married almost 17 years now and after all that time I still find myself calling or texting “I miss you” throughout the day whenever I’m traveling.

The distance often reminds me of when we first started dating, and how incredibly difficult it was to say goodnight after dropping her home.

Yes, everyone needs their space.

Yes, we can get on each other’s nerves from time to time (believe it or not, that’s normal in any relationship).

But at the end of the day, I just miss her when we’re apart – plain and simple.

I’m sure that might sound strange to my traveling companions, who seem to enjoy their freedom from the burdens of life. But for me, I’m usually anticipating my flight home – looking forward to the opportunity to settle back into normalcy.

It’s funny how often we take for granted the “normalcy” of life, and how often we look for what’s new and exciting to satisfy are insatiable need to feel fulfilled.

I found this wonderful quote by Dru Edmund Kucherera which sums up my feelings perfectly.

Missing someone is not about how long it has been since you have seen them or the amount of time since you have talked…it is about that very moment when you are doing something and wishing they were there with you.”

Business trips are great for a change of scenery, to see new parts of the country and to help refocus your attention on the people who are most important to you.

For “missing someone is your heart’s way of reminding you that you love them.” – Anonymous
